Assistant Principal

Detroit Leadership Academy Middle/High School, Detroit, MI

  • Responsible for assisting to maintain the safety and functionality of the building.
  • Serve as the Testing Coordinator and proctor for the NWEA Map, M-STEP, Plan, Explore, and ACT.
  • Facilitate data meetings and professional developments in conjunction with Academic Approach and Achievement Network.
  • Ensure curriculum alignment to the Common Core State Standards.
  • Conduct daily classroom observations and provide immediate feedback and instructional support.
  • Perform mid-year and end of the year formal evaluations.
  • Evaluate building-wide programs, curriculum, and initiatives.

  •  Responsible for teaching the following: 12th Grade Advanced Placement Literature and Composition, 9th and 12th Grade English, Greek Mythology, and African American Literature.
  • Facilitate departmental meetings using the SLICE protocol to address student achievement, vertical alignment and the academic rigor of the team.
  • Successfully coach/assist teachers in implementing best practices and strategies for high school literacy through observing classroom instruction and evaluating their necessary level of support.

  •  Responsible for teaching the following: 9th Grade Research and Writing, Journalism and African American Literature.
  • Piloted a new core class to the high school English department, 9th Grade Research and Writing.
  • Developed the entire course curriculum for 9th Grade Research and Writing, including unit plans, lesson plans, resources, activities, and assessments.
  • Organized a new teacher mentoring program that meet biweekly and provided relevant and useful professional development and support for all first through third year teachers.
  • Facilitated the revitalization of the school’s newspaper, by incorporating student voted upon features and personalized commentary.

 

English Teacher/Yearbook Advisor/Varsity Cheerleading Coach

St. Martin de Porres Catholic High School, Detroit, MI

  •  Responsible for teaching the following: 11th and 12th Grade English, Creative Writing, and Yearbook.
  • Oversaw the conception, creation, revision, and final edit of the school’s yearbook, through delegating tasks, and organizing student committees.
  • Implemented an after-school creative writing club, called the “Porres Poets” that was open to all students and staff.
  • Hosted a quarterly Poetry Slam that included staff, students, parents, and local talent.
  • Served as the varsity cheerleading coach.
